The Miami Dolphins surprised a lot of people in the 2020 NFL season. After three straight years of sub-.500 finishes, the Dolphins finished this past campaign with a 10-6 record. While it wasn't good enough to make the playoffs, it does have Miami's fanbase hungrier than ever in 2021.

If the Dolphins want to make a playoff push next season, one player who can help them is third-year running back Myles Gaskin.

The 24-year-old RB was the Dolphins' lead back last season and is expected to resume the role this year. Expectations for him are high as Gaskin is The Athletic's pick to be the Dolphins' breakout player in 2021. As a result, you can expect to see his fantasy stock increase.

Myles Gaskin Fantasy Outlook

The fact of the matter is that Gaskin has the perfect opportunity to excel in 2021. QB Tua Tagovailoa is one year older and looked more comfortable as the starter as the season progressed. Bringing in wide receivers like Will Fuller (although, he's suspended to begin the season) and 2021 first-round pick Jaylen Waddle will open up the field and make life easier for Gaskin.

The main thing standing between Gaskin and a breakout season is his health. After only playing seven games as a rookie in 2019, the former Washington Huskies RB played a total of 10 in 2020. Still, Gaskin finished his sophomore campaign with 972 total yards from scrimmage and 5 touchdowns. Had he managed to stay healthy, he was on pace to finish the year with over 1,500 total yards and 8 TDs.

Considering Gaskin is only 24 years old, it's not out of the realm of possibility to imagine him putting those numbers up next season — especially with a 17th game on the schedule.

In other words, Gaskin could end up being a steal for fantasy managers, especially with some likely being too afraid to draft him because of his injury history and the uncertainty around Tua.

The Dolphins are currently projected to be a bubble team in 2021, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The oddsmaker has given Miami +118 odds to make the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Dolphins' odds to win the Super Bowl sit at +3000 (T-13th).
