The New York Mets have been dominant throughout the first half of the 2022 MLB season. Injuries to key players like Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer could've derailed a promising campaign, but the Mets are still the NL East leaders with a respectable 51-31 record.

Having said that, no team is perfect and the Mets could afford to fix any glaring holes going forward. MLB insider Mark Feinsand is listing relief pitching as the organization's most glaring need ahead of the trade deadline and has one specific target for the Mets to pursue.

Mets Trade Rumors

To improve their bullpen, Feinsand says that Chicago Cubs veteran reliever David Robertson is a potential fit for the Mets. New York's bullpen currently has a 3.53 ERA and while that's 11th-best in the Majors, it's still well below other contenders like the Houston Astros (2.66) and New York Yankees (2.67).

A 14-year MLB veteran, Robertson is in the middle of one of the best seasons of his career. The 37-year-old righty has gone 2-0 in 30 relief appearances thus far, pitching to a 1.89 ERA and 0.960 WHIP while striking out 45 batters and issuing 15 walks in 33.1 innings.

The former MLB All-Star's play has been attractive, but Feinsand adds that Robertson's connection with Mets general manager Billy Eppler is another good reason to bring in the reliever. Eppler was the Yankees' assistant GM from 2012 to 2014 when Robertson was on the roster.

The fact that Robertson is also on an expiring deal is just the icing on the cake, meaning the Cubs' asking price likely won't be too high. He brings a World Series ring to the table and if the Mets don't have to unload a top prospect to land him, that's all the better.

Mets World Series Odds

The Mets currently sit at +700 odds (No. 4) to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Those are terrific odds, no doubt, and adding Robertson to the mix could help achieve a championship this fall.
