MLB Insider Reveals Perfect Trade Deadline Fit for Cardinals' Most Glaring Need

The St. Louis Cardinals continued trading places with the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the NL Central standings in June. St. Louis aims to punch the franchise's fourth consecutive postseason appearance, but will have to upgrade the roster to keep pace with the Brewers.
MLB insider Mark Feinsand is listing starting pitching as the organization's most glaring need ahead of the trade deadline and has one specific target for the Cardinals to pursue.

Cardinals Trade Rumors
Feinsand identifies one of the most highly sought-after starting pitchers on the mark, Frankie Montas of the Oakland Athletics, to fill this need.
Outside of Miles Mikolas and Adam Wainwright, St. Louis' rotation has been incredibly inconsistent. Dakota Hudson is the only other starter with more than 10 starts in 2022, but has pitched to a disappointing 4.29 ERA. No other starter owns more than 37.1 innings pitched.
Acquiring Montas will be a tall task considering he's the top pitcher reportedly available ahead of the headline. But, this is the difference between adding a starter to eat up innings in the back of rotation, or forming a dynamic trio with Mikolas and Wainwright.
Montas is enjoying one of the best seasons in his career, pitching to a 3.26 ERA and striking out 9.3 batters per nine innings. He's also fresh of a campaign where he finished sixth in the AL Cy Young award voting.
The Cardinals currently trail the Brewers by 2.5 games in the division standings. St. Louis holds +3000 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
