MLB Insider Reveals the Cubs Player Most Likely to Be Dealt at Trade Deadline
The Chicago Cubs find themselves struggling mightily to begin the 2022 season. It's a real possibility this teams becomes a seller at the trade deadline given they're in contention with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds for the worst record in the NL Central.
Though several players could be on the move this summer, ESPN's Brad Doolittle believes one veteran in particular is a strong trade candidate.
Willson Contreras Trade Rumors
Catcher Willson Contreras was name-checked by Doolittle his latest article, saying the Cubs "almost have to trade him" if a contract extension can't be reached between the two sides. And while Doolittle thinks others could be on the move, he also says Chicago could even add pieces at the deadline as it looks to "move beyond a rebuilding phase."
It's clear that the Cubs are a major wild card ahead of the deadline. They could act as both sellers and buyers, offloading expiring deals in favor of receiving players who have years remaining on their current contracts.
This is a savvy approach for Chicago to be forward-thinking and not just make moves that impact the 2022 season, but take into account 2023 and beyond as well. Bringing in the right pieces now would put this team on the fast track to serious contention once again.
It appears the Cubs could be very busy as the Aug. 2 trade deadline draws closer.
