The Milwaukee Brewers are holding onto a slim lead atop the NL Central despite only posting a .315 on-base percentage as a team (T-No. 15 in MLB). Adding a bat at the trade deadline has to be a priority and one MLB insider sees Milwaukee as the perfect fit for a NL West power bat.

Milwaukee Brewers Trade Rumors

Mike Petriello listed the Brewers as a potential landing spot for Arizona Diamondbacks' slugger Christian Walker. Walker is an interesting trade piece considering he is only batting .205 and stuck on a last place team. There's going to be a lot more interest in him than many people expect, though.

That's because Walker's walk rate (13%) is better than the league average as is his strikeout rate (19%). The 31-year-old is also on pace to set a career-high mark in home runs with 22 through 94 games this year. Walker has logged 44 runs scored and 49 RBI while hitting in the middle of the lineup.

Keep in mind Walker is a great defensive first baseman and does not become a free agent until the end of the 2024 season. He is not going to be a cheap target for Milwaukee, but he will be a necessary one. Having the option to shift Rowdy Tellez to DH would be a huge benefit in the playoffs.

It's safe to say Walker is not going to be the only bat the Brewers will be linked to prior to August 2 coming around, so keep an eye on their front office. For now, Milwaukee has odds set at +2500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
