Running back Michael Carter was expected to take on a substantial role right away for the New York Jets, but that may not be the case.

The team's latest depth chart lists the rookie as a co-4th teamer, crushing his Week 1 fantasy outlook. Meanwhile, Tevin Coleman receives a boost given he is in line to see the bulk of the carries on Sunday.

Michael Carter Fantasy Outlook

This is not the news fantasy managers rostering Michael Carter wanted to hear. The Jets spent a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to grab the athletic dual-threat RB out of North Carolina. However, reports claim that everything is lining up for the Jets to use a RB by committee approach.

The best hope for Carter to maintain fantasy relevance is by carving out a role in the receiving game. The Jets are going to be down in a lot of games this season, which means rookie quarterback Zach Wilson should be throwing the ball a ton. Carter averaged 8.0 yards per catch across four college seasons.

For now, Carter is a great stash option to keep hidden on the bench. He just does not have enough upside to be started in Week 1.

Tevin Coleman Fantasy Outlook

Listed as the starter on the depth chart, veteran Tevin Coleman's fantasy outlook is getting brighter and brighter for Week 1. The seventh-year pro is looking to lead the Jets backfield after racking up 811 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns during his two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Coleman draws a solid matchup in Week 1 facing a Carolina Panthers' defense that gave up the 11th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs last season. As long as the 28-year-old can stay healthy, he is set up to see a lot of work on an offense in desperate need of a spark.

Coleman checks in as the RB35 in The Duel's Week 1 fantasy football rankings. He is a viable FLEX option for fantasy managers looking for RB help.
