While the 2021 MLB season hasn't reached its halfway point just yet, the New York Mets have been having a successful season so far. With a 34-25 record, the Mets sit atop the NL East, 5.0 games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies. Fortunately, it's looking like New York could be getting some reinforcements soon that could help them extend its divisional lead.

The Mets got some good news as outfielder Michael Conforto will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday night, according to Mets beatwriter Mike Puma.

Michael Conforto Injury Update

Conforto wasn't expected to begin his rehab assignment for another few days, however, he has been progressing quicker than expected. Mets manager Luis Rojas said that he expects Conforto to play for around five innings and see at least two at-bats in his rehab assignment on Wednesday.

Conforto has 2 home runs and 13 RBI in 113 at-bats this season while recording a .230/.356/.336 slash line. Those numbers are well below how he performed in his monstrous 2019 MLB campaign, however, so the hope is that some time off has gotten him back on the right track.

The Mets currently have the fourth-best odds to win the World Series at +850, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Getting a healthy Conforto back in the lineup will go a long way in improving those odds.
