One of the New York Mets' bigger moves this offseason was signing veteran outfielder Starling Marte to a four-year, $78 million contract back in November. However, the 33-year-old hasn't taken part in any team workouts this week as he deals with an oblique injury.

With Opening Day less than a month away, it's understandable if fans are worried about Marte's status to start the 2022 MLB season. Fortunately, the latest injury update provides some encouraging news.

Starling Marte Injury Update

New York Daily News' Deesha Thosar reported Friday that Marte plans to resume hitting some time this week. Assuming that his oblique holds up, the hope is that he'll be ready for the Mets' Opening Day matchup against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, April 7.

Marte's was solid in 120 games with the Miami Marlins and Oakland A's last season, slashing .310/.383/.458, along with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs in 467 at-bats.

Along with Marte, the Mets are hoping that their offseason additions will help them return to the playoffs. They haven't qualified for the postseason since 2016 and last won a playoff game in the year before, so it's been a long time coming.

Although the season hasn't begun yet, it's looking like the club's moves have been paying off. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently giving the Mets +1100 odds (T-No. 3) to win the World Series.
