Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay looked destined to spend most of the year in a timeshare for the Denver Broncos. That certainly proved true early on in Week 1. Before leaving the game with an injury, Lindsay actually saw 8 opportunities (carries plus targets) compared to 7 for Gordon.

However, with Lindsay now set to miss the next two to four weeks with a turf toe injury, Gordon's fantasy football outlook has gone through the roof.

With Lindsay sidelined, Gordon saw 10 opportunities the rest of the way. Royce Freeman was working as Denver's No. 2 option in the second half, and he only saw 2 opportunities, playing just 6 snaps. Gordon is going to be a workhorse until Lindsay returns.

That volume is going to make him a really compelling target, but a daunting schedule does cap Gordon's ceiling a bit.

Denver faces the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. Both units ranked top four against the run in 2019, per Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics. He gets what could be a plus matchup against the New York Jets in Week 4, but there's a real chance Lindsay is back by then.

With Lindsay sidelined, Gordon will be this team's bell cow. But he might not be too efficient thanks to a few really difficult matchups.
