Marlins News: Top Prospect Jesus Sanchez Set for 2021 MLB Debut
While the Miami Marlins have struggled to play close to .500 baseball during the 2021 MLB season with their 29-37 overall record, there may be some silver linings in this tough start. Anytime an MLB team struggles as they get deeper into the campaign, it's an excellent opportunity for top prospects to get their chance to shine.
That happened on Tuesday as Marlins beat reporter Craig Mish reported the Marlins are calling up outfielder Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez is currently ranked as Miami's No. 5 overall prospect, according to MLB.com's prospect rankings.

Sanchez actually made his MLB debut during the tail end of August last season. However, he retains his rookie status after only appearing in 10 games. Sanchez, a primary right fielder, did struggle in those 10 games going just 1-for-25 at the plate. It's an extremely small sample size, however, and he recorded 4 walks in that span.
The 22-year-old right fielder's minor league stats are a much better representation of his skillset. In two seasons of Triple-A ball, Sanchez owns a .288/.354/.514 slashing line with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs and 36 runs scored in 257 at-bats. Sanchez projects as a raw-power hitter.
Right now, the Marlins are hoping for any sort of spark. Currently, Miami owns just +3200 odds to win the NL East division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Hopefully, an infusion of young talent can get this team back to some winning ways.
