Infielder Jazz Chisholm has been a bright spot on an otherwise underwhelming Miami Marlins team this season. His defensive skills in the field and ability to make contact at the plate stick out given he is still a rookie. Unfortunately, the team had to place him on the injured list due to an illness.
Jazz Chisholm Injury Update
Chisholm was a late scratch from the Marlins' lineup on Sunday and then did not travel with the team for its series against the San Diego Padres. It was announced that he is experiencing flu-like symptoms, which is a concern since he spent one day on the COVID-19 injured list last week.
No timetable has been set up for Chisholm's return, but the Marlins coaching staff stated that he could be back following the allotted 10 days. The young second baseman currently ranks third on the team in hits (72) and is tied for second on the team in stolen bases (11).
Overall, Chisholm is hitting .252/.313/.418 on the year to go along with 41 runs scored and 36 RBI. The 23-year-old has also smacked 11 home runs and drawn 24 walks across 78 games played. Veteran Isan Diaz is expected to start at second base until Chisholm is healthy enough to return.
The Marlins were sellers at the MLB trade deadline and already have their eyes set on making a run next year. For now, Miami remains a long shot to make any noise this season and currently has odds set at +50000 to win the NL East division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
