The fallout of quotes and reactions from fans, former players and media members continue following the New York Yankees untimely exit from the MLB Postseason. Earlier in the week, quotes came out that suggested Mariano Rivera would support the firing of Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Rivera is now speaking up saying those quotes were taken out of context and he was not referring to Boone specifically, just any manager in general.

Rivera went on to clarify with the Associated Press:

Although the manager doesn't hit, the manager doesn't pitch, the manager doesn't run, the manager doesn't do nothing but manage and make sure everybody's ready to play, unfortunately they never fire the whole team, they always fire the manager. I was giving a generic estimation. And obviously they took it out of context.

Rivera was a lifetime Yankee, considered the greatest relief pitcher in MLB history and was the first unanimous selection into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

While he's not directly involved with the organization, Rivera still has clear ties to the team that employed him for his entire 19-year career. He's always around, is being asked about the team and clearly still roots for and supports them.

Owner Hal Steinbrenner indicated earlier this week he has no intentions of making a change at manager, and reports suggest GM Brian Cashman will also be returning, something plenty of fans have their reservations about.

Regardless, nothing is set in stone, and even if both return, this is looking like it will be one very interesting and active Yankees offseason.
