With the 2021 NFL Draft officially in the books, free agency is set to heat up once again. Free safety Malik Hooker remains unsigned following an Achilles injury that cut his 2020 season short after just 2 games. However, he looks primed to have a bounce-back year and would make a great addition to any defense.

A number of NFL teams should be looking to upgrade their defense as training camp quickly approaches. With that in mind, here are three of the most likely free agent destinations for Hooker.

Malik Hooker Rumors

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars would be a great fit for Hooker as he played for head coach Urban Meyer during his college career at Ohio State. Hooker is still only 24 years old and could develop into a star under the right coaching staff. When healthy, he has proven to be a ballhawk racking up at least 2 interceptions and 3 pass breakups in each of his first three NFL seasons. Pairing Hooker up with starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins would give Jacksonville an intriguing duo in the secondary with a lot of upside.

2. Dallas Cowboys

There is no question the Dallas Cowboys should try to upgrade their defense before next season kicks off. They gave up 29.6 points per game last year (No. 28 in NFL) and could use a young playmaker like Hooker patrolling the secondary. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was hired to turn this defense around and this is exactly the type of signing he has been known to make in the past. Adding Hooker would bring along very little risk, but a lot of reward if things turn out right for Dallas.

1. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers were expected to take a safety in the first few rounds of the draft, but ended up waiting until the seventh to do so. Expected starter Nasir Adderley played in 15 games for the Chargers last season, but posted just 1 interception and 3 pass breakups. Bringing in Hooker as competition for the starting role would only benefit the Chargers from a depth perspective. If he can stay on the field, Hooker would have a chance to shine lining up alongside Derwin James in the secondary.
