Heading into the second round of the 2021 NCAA tournament, Illinois' +500 odds to win the tournament had them ranked second, only trailing Gonzaga.

Well, those dreams didn't last long, as they were upset by Loyola-Chicago on Sunday afternoon.

March Madness: Loyola Odds to Win the National Championship

This didn't just look like a fluke win, either, and betting markets have reacted accordingly. Before the game Loyola was just +6500 to win the National Championship, per FanDuel Sportsbook. But following their upset win those odds have skyrocketed to +1600 — tied for the fifth-best in the nation.

Only Gonzaga (+200), Baylor (+500), Michigan (+900) and Houston (+1300) have better odds, while Alabama (+1600) and Iowa (+1600) are tied with Loyola. Considering that group includes the three remaining No. 1 seeds and two No. 2's, it's safe to say that Loyola is in pretty good company.

Loyola's Sweet 16 matchup will come on Saturday, March 27, when they play the winner of today's No. 12 Oregon State vs. No. 4 Oklahoma State matchup.
