After generating serious interest, Matthew Stafford has been traded to the Los Angeles Rams for a bounty of picks and Jared Goff. The move will upgrade the Rams' QB position, making them one of the league's contenders heading into next season.

However, Los Angeles reportedly explored a different trade that would've been even bigger than the Stafford deal.

LA Times writer Sam Farmer says the Rams talked with the Green Bay Packers about superstar Aaron Rodgers, but the team had no interest in trading their 37-year-old quarterback. Although a deal never came to fruition, it shows that Los Angeles was aggressive in pursuing a new quarterback.

The team saw an opportunity, with Rodgers seeming less than pleased with the Packers after the team's NFC Championship loss. Green Bay's front office spent a first-round pick on quarterback Jordan Love last year, and that's been a source of tension.

Sending Rodgers to a California-based team could've been a nice gesture if they were set on moving on, but their rebuffing of the Rams shows they have no plans of starting the Love era yet.

A Rodgers deal would've been massive, but acquiring Stafford is a big move in itself. There's optimism for the Rams heading into 2021 with the league's top-ranked defense in 2020 and offensive weapons who will hopefully be unlocked by their new quarterback.
