The Detroit Lions closed out the 2021 NFL season with a 3-3 record, giving fans hope for what the future brings. Now, the Lions look to take the next forward by filling in several roster holes this offseason, especially when it concerns the wide receiver position.

Detroit WRs coach Antwaan Randle El has made it clear that the coaching staff wants to improve the wideout situation in the coming months. One way of doing that would be to sign wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling away from the rival Green Bay Packers in free agency.

Lions Free Agency

Amon-Ra St. Brown and Quintez Cephus are the Lions' top-two wide receivers at this point. However, they're both in the early stages of their careers and could use more seasoning before being thrust into a bigger role.

Meanwhile, Valdes-Scantling brings 59 games of NFL experience under his belt. He's caught 123 balls in that time for 2,153 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging a respectable 17.5 yards per reception.

MVS also showed some serious potential in 2020 when he led the NFL with 20.9 yards per reception. He didn't come close to that last year, but a situation where he's given a bigger role could yield those results again. With the Lions desperately needing a veteran wideout, Detroit could be the perfect destination.

Besides, taking Valdes-Scantling away from the Packers could give the Lions a much-needed boost in the NFC North. They currently have the worst odds (+1200) to win the division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
