The quarterback position will be one of the more interesting ones to pay attention to at the 2021 NFL Draft. The consensus is that Clemson's Trevor Lawrence and BYU's Zach Wilson will be the first two options off of the board. After that, the next quarterback selected could be anyone's guess.
Florida Gators QB Kyle Trask is another signal-caller whose draft stock has been on the rise as of late. Trask spent three seasons with the Gators with his best season was certainly his last. Trask played in 12 games in 2020, finishing with 4,283 passing yards and 43 touchdowns to 8 interceptions.
With that being said, here's a look at three teams that could draft Trask later this month.
3. Detroit Lions (No. 41)
After the Detroit Lions traded away Matthew Stafford, it became clear that the organization was ready to embrace the rebuild. Yes, they still have Jared Goff as their starter, but they may not be convinced that he's their quarterback of the future. If Trask is available at No. 41, the Lions could take a swing at him. He could spend a couple of seasons backing up Goff until he's ready to take over starting duties. After all, Goff has five seasons of experience as a No. 1 quarterback, so he could pass a lot down to Trask.
2. Washington Football Team (No. 51)
With Kyle Trask possibly being a second-round selection, he could wind up being drafted by the Washington Football Team at No. 51. Make no mistake: Ryan Fitzpatrick is the team's starting quarterback in 2021. However, there's no telling how many years he has left in the tank. They could use the No. 19 pick to address another need, like the offensive line, and use their second-rounder to make Trask the potential quarterback of the future.
1. Atlanta Falcons (No. 35)
With QB Matt Ryan turning 36 years old this year and the team possibly taking Florida TE Kyle Pitts at No. 4, the Atlanta Falcons will need to draft a quarterback at some point. Enter Kyle Trask. For starters, it would let Ryan play out the rest of his career until Trask is ready to be the No. 1 QB. Secondly, Trask was Pitts' quarterback on the Gators, so the two have already developed chemistry. Pitts caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, so the Falcons would love it if he and Trask could do that at the next level someday.
