The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' backfield is something of a mess for fantasy purposes. Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette will likely be splitting the early-down work, while Giovanni Bernard should handle third-down duties.

Bernard is currently dealing with a "mild" high-ankle sprain, but he's expected to be back for Week 1. If he misses any time, though, Fournette would see a big boost in fantasy value.

If Bernard is out, Fournette would be the clear-cut favorite to win passing-down duties. Last year, Fournette turned 47 targets into 36 receptions for 233 yards, while Jones caught 28 balls for 165 yards.

This split was even more pronounced in the postseason, where Fournette turned 21 looks into 18 receptions for 148 yards and a score. Jones, meanwhile, drew just 2 targets in three games played.

If Bernard is out, Fournette could have some low-end RB2 appeal right away. But with Bernard healthy, it'll be tough to know which Bucs back to trust on a weekly basis.

Unless one of these three goes down, this backfield is probably too crowded for fantasy purposes. It's hard to view the Bucs' RBs as anything more than low-end FLEX options – at least while all three are healthy.
