Leonard Fournette Fantasy Outlook Features Great Buy-Low Potential Amid Ronald Jones Struggles

Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones both entered the 2021 season with limited fantasy football upside due to their timeshare in the backfield. However, Jones has struggled to begin the year, putting his starting status in jeopardy.

The potential for Fournette to pass Jones on the depth chart makes him a great buy-low candidate.

Jones took his place in Bruce Arians' doghouse early in Week 1 after a fumble against the Dallas Cowboys. He didn't touch the field at all after his mishap, while Fournette saw extended work on the ground and in the passing game.

Jones then got the starting nod again in Week 2, though his struggles were apparent. He went out of bounds short of the first-down marker despite having plenty of room, missed a wide-open running lane on the next play, and had an egregious blown assignment that led to a Tom Brady sack.

The stage has been set for Fournette to take over as RB1. He's already out-touched Jones on the ground (20 carries to 10), and his presence in the passing game (11 targets, 9 receptions) is miles ahead of Jones (3 targets, 1 reception).

Fournette also out-snapped Jones in Week 2 (31 vs. 26) despite the latter being the nominal starter.

Fournette's current rank as RB29 in PPR scoring is encouraging given his competition for touches. However, he hasn't been mind-blowingly good, which presents a great buy-low opportunity for those willing to bet on the LSU product taking over the backfield in the coming weeks.
