The Chicago Cubs are going to be one of the most interesting MLB teams to watch this offseason, with plenty of big-name players having uncertain futures with the club.

One whose future is becoming increasingly certain is Kyle Schwarber — who is expected to be playing elsewhere in 2021.

These three teams should pursue Schwarber in free agency.

1. Cleveland Indians

A move to the AL where he can serve as the designated hitter is a likely one for Schwarber, and the Cleveland Indians could use him in that role. Franmil Reyes is a serviceable DH, but having posted a career-high 28.6% strikeout rate to go with a career-low .450 slugging percentage in 2020 was far from ideal. Schwarber and Reyes also hit from different sides of the plate, so even if Cleveland doesn't want to play either of them in the field, there can be some strategic platoon decisions made there.

2. Texas Rangers

Shin-Soo Choo is heading for free agency, and Schwarber would make for a solid replacement at the DH spot. This is a lineup that values power, and even in a down year in 2020, Schwarber's .204 isolated power (ISO) mark showcased he's still got plenty of that. A fly-ball hitter like Schwarber at Globe Life Park is a natural fit.

3. Cincinnati Reds

Trevor Bauer is likely heading elsewhere this offseason, and that means the Cincinnati Reds are going to need to lean more heavily on their bats to remain competitive. They ranked just 17th as a team in weighted on-base average (wOBA) in 2020, and while it's not ideal to play Schwarber in the field, it's a compromise that could be worth making.
