After starting the season a lowly 1-6 in 2022, the Detroit Lions have completely turned things around and now sit at 7-7. This run has included a couple of really impressive wins against the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets.
Despite the slow start, as we prepare to enter Week 16, the Lions' playoff hopes are still alive. This has former Lions running back Kerryon Johnson excited about the prospect of seeing his old team back in the postseason. So excited he tweeted out that he was willing to spend his kids' college funds on playoff tickets if Detroit was able to make it in.
This is a bold claim from a guy that still clearly has the faith, passion and dedication to his former team. Coming in as a highly-touted pick in 2018 out of Auburn, Johnson had a promising rookie season with the Lions, but failed to build on it. He rushed for 641 yards in 2018, but never came close to that number again, dropping to 403 in 2019 and 181 in 2020. He left Detroit after that season and only appeared in one more NFL game with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.
Johnson will always be somewhat of a "what could have been" player with the Lions and fans of Detroit, but it's clear where his heart still lies a few years later. Although, he better hope his kids get a scholarship if he plans on spending their college tuition money on playoff tickets.
