Kenneth Gainwell Fantasy Outlook Explodes After Miles Sanders Injury Update

Updated (Sunday, Oct. 24, 5:45 p.m. EST): Miles Sanders has officially been downgraded to out for Week 7.

The Philadelphia Eagles RB depth chart took a potential blow on Sunday when leading running back Miles Sanders left the contest early with an injury.

Sanders was off to a quick start, rushing for 30 yards on 6 attempts in the first quarter before going down.

The extent of Sanders' ankle injury is unclear, but he was taken off the field on a cart. At best, Sanders is questionable to return. This leaves backup running back Kenneth Gainwell with a huge fantasy football opportunity in Week 7.

Kenneth Gainwell Fantasy Outlook

Gainwell operates as a clear-cut No. 2 RB behind Sanders, but he's been effective in 2021. Gainwell has managed 100 rushing yards on just 21 rushing attempts for a 4.8 yards per rush average. He's an excellent receiver, too.

Gainwell has turned his 23 targets into 15 receptions for 123 yards, averaging 2.5 catches per game entering Week 7. Look for a heavy dose of Gainwell if Sanders is unable to return. Las Vegas allows the 12th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2021.

If Sanders is looking at an extended absence, Gainwell would be on the RB2 radar when the Eagles take on the Detroit Lions in Week 8.
