The Los Angeles Chargers spent a third-round pick on rookie wide receiver Josh Palmer in the 2021 NFL Draft. The pick didn't exactly make headlines at the time. Palmer was a decent prospect, but he was by no means viewed as an elite talent.
Still, the rookie from Tennessee is reportedly tearing it up at Chargers camp and could be the favorite to win WR3 duties. On an offense this good, that could lead to some real fantasy football upside for the Canada native.
Josh Palmer Fantasy Football Outlook
Palmer currently carries an average draft position (ADP) of WR82. He's essentially going undrafted in most leagues, but he's a name to keep an eye on in all formats.
The Chargers were really thin at receiver last year. They had Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and tight end Hunter Henry, who has since left to join the New England Patriots. It's very possible that Palmer becomes the third option in this passing game.
And on this Justin Herbert-led offense, that could be a very valuable role.
Herbert rewrote the record books as a rookie, and the improvements made along the offensive line could lead to a massive year two jump. Drafting or picking up Palmer is a great, low-cost way to buy some stock in an offense that could explode this year.
Plus, both Allen and Williams have had real injury issues in the past. If either were to go down, Palmer would have some big-time upside.
Josh Palmer ADP
Palmer shouldn't be going undrafted, but you shouldn't get carried away, either. He's a great end-of-draft flyer and is a name to keep an eye on at the beginning of the regular season.
In keeper formats, Palmer is a great draft-and-stash option. With Williams likely to bolt via free agency next offseason, Palmer could easily be the team's No. 2 WR this time next year.
