Houston Astros fans around the country are still buzzing following the team's World Series victory just under a week ago. The festive mood was further amplified on Wednesday when it was revealed that manager Dusty Baker would be returning for the 2023 MLB season.

Astros second baseman Jose Altuve spoke with the media on Friday regarding Baker's return. The two-time World Series Champion said that he's "really happy" that the manager will be back in the dugout next season, adding that the 73-year-old "deserved" the right to stay in Houston.

Altuve's praise for Baker didn't end there. The six-time Silver Slugger described the Astros manager as "the right guy for us this season." Some may forget that the only reason why Baker was hired back in 2020 was due to A.J. Hinch being fired following the club's sign-stealing controversy.

Before joining the Astros, Baker spent 22 seasons managing the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals. He made the playoffs nine times over that stretch, only making it to the World Series once (2002).

Fast forward to 2022 and Baker finally has a World Series ring to go along with two ALCS appearances over the last three seasons. He's gone 28-14 in 32 playoff games as Houston's manager, which is a major improvement over the 23-32 postseason record that he had with the other four teams.

Back in September, there were rumors that Astros management may opt to part ways with Baker. Clearly, winning the organization's second championship since 2017 changed things. Now, the well-respected bench boss is ready to prove that age doesn't mean a thing by chasing another World Series next year.

Astros World Series Odds 2023

Though there's plenty of time until the next season begins, there's a good chance that Baker could add a second ring to his hand. The Astros currently hold the second-best odds (+600) to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
