Jonnu Smith Could Be an Under-the-Radar Free Agent Steal for the Seahawks

With Russell Wilson making it clear he's unhappy, the Seattle Seahawks need to pursue some serious upgrades this offseason if they want to compete. One of the team's biggest needs is at tight end, with Greg Olsen retiring and Jacob Hollister headed to free agency.
The Seahawks' solution is promising tight end and free agent Jonnu Smith.
Jonnu Smith one of 2021's most intriguing FAs

* Stuck in run-1st offenses throughout NFL career
* 93rd-percentile athlete (4.62 40, 38" vert at 6'3/248)
* Coaches have trusted him as run blocker
* Dynamic highlight reel as run-after-catch playmaker
* Turns 26 just before season
Smith has the potential to take off if properly utilized. He's a physical freak with big-play capabilities even at 6-foot-3, 248 pounds.
2020 was a breakout year for the 25-year-old, registering career highs in receptions (41), yards (448) and touchdowns (8). However, he did much of his damage in just the first four games -- grabbing 18 catches for 221 yards and 5 TDs -- before being used more in a blocking role in the Tennessee Titans' run-first offense.
Smith's decline in production to end the year could make him more affordable this offseason, but the potential is clearly there. Pairing him with Wilson and adding a third weapon beside Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf could give the Seahawks' offense the firepower it needs to avoid down games that plagued them in 2020.
Seattle has already been linked to Smith earlier this offseason, and it'd be a wise move for the Seahawks to make him a priority in free agency.
