The MLB Trade Deadline now takes center stage in the baseball world with All-Star festivities wrapped up. One name expected to be on the move by the end of July is Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo, who has been a bright spot on a team at the bottom of the standings.
Contending teams will be eager to pry Gallo away, so it's no surprise they're circling as the deadline approaches.
Joey Gallo Trade
The New York Yankees and San Diego Padres have officially been linked to the 2021 All-Star with the July 30 deadline on the horizon. It's not the first time the Padres have been brought up as a Gallo destination, either.
New York is in need of a boost in order to keep up in the AL. They're only 46-43 after being preseason World Series favorites and trail the final Wild Card spot by 4.5 games.
San Diego, meanwhile, could use a strong reinforcement to make sure they finish the second half strong. At 53-40, they're 3.5 games up on the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot and 6.0 games back of first place in the NL West.
Gallo has racked up 24 home runs, 52 RBI and a majors-best 72 walks this season while slashing .239/.402/.522. It's easy to see how he'd make any contending team's lineup stronger as postseason baseball approaches.
Where Gallo ends up at the deadline may have a huge impact on the 2021 World Series race.
