Jerry Jeudy's productive day against the New York Giants was cut short by an ankle injury in Week 1. Jeudy avoided the worst and will miss 4-6 weeks instead of the rest of the season, but it now opens up an opportunity for Tim Patrick to step up with a Bronco wideout hurt once again.
Jeudy's weeks-long absence makes Patrick a prime waiver wire target in fantasy football after Week 1.
Tim Patrick Fantasy
Patrick showcased a connection with new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Sunday, catching all 4 of his targets for 39 yards and a touchdown. He totaled 13.9 PPR points for the day despite competing with Jeudy and Courtland Sutton for looks, which bodes well for his outlook moving forward in this offense.
Jeudy saw the second-most targets on the team (7), only behind Noah Fant (8), before leaving the game near the end of the third quarter. Now Bridgewater will be without one of his favorite targets for several weeks, opening up the door for Patrick to become the team's WR2.
This is nothing new for Patrick. With Sutton out for the 2020 campaign, he set career highs in targets (79), receptions (51), yards (724) and TDs (6). And Sutton only saw 3 targets in his return against the Giants, so there's a chance for Patrick to develop a serious rapport with Bridgewater.
Fellow wideout K.J. Hamler also recorded 4 targets, but he played in just 36% of the team's snaps. Patrick, meanwhile, was at 70%. It's clear that Patrick is a valued part of the offense, and he's perfectly positioned to fill Jeudy's role in his absence.
Patrick should merit weekly starter consideration if his role expands with Jeudy out. He heads into an appetizing matchup against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that gave up the eighth-most PPR points in Week 1.
