Jaguars Kickers Giving Hazardous Performance at Training Camp

The Jacksonville Jaguars will enter the 2022 NFL season with a brand new placekicker after they waived Matthew Wright prior to the start of training camp. It's a decision the team may come to regret almost instantly considering Ryan Santoso and Andrew Mevis have gotten off to a hazardous start.
Jaguars have kicking issues. Warming up they hit Dave Campo in the head, nearly wiped out Ashlyn Sullivan and sent another group scattering. None of them was even standing close to the goal posts

Mark Long of the Associated Press reported that footballs were flying everywhere on Thursday. Former NFL head coach Dave Campo was hit in the head and team reporter Ashlyn Sullivan was almost wiped out as well. People far from the goalposts were sent scurrying away from the action.
It's safe to say that is not what the Jacksonville coaching staff wanted to see. Santoso and Mevis combined to go 5-for-8 on field goal attempts (FGA) on Tuesday with each miss coming from about 45 yards out, according to Andrew Badillo. A favorite to earn the starting gig has yet to emerge.
Waiving Wright was a surprising move simply because the 26-year-old went 21-for-24 on FGA during the 2021 season. He also nailed a 53-yard game-winner to end the Jaguars' 20-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Mevis is an undrafted rookie and Santoso has only five FGA to his name in the NFL.
It's important for the Jaguars to find a consistent kicker. After all, they averaged a league-worst 14.9 points per game last year and need all the help they can get. For now, Jacksonville has odds set at +450 to make the NFL Playoffs for the first time since 2017, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
