Both New York Mets as well as MLB fans should be excited to hear that one of the best pitchers in baseball will be back on the mound Tuesday night. Reports have confirmed that Jacob deGrom will return and start the Mets' second game in a series against the Colorado Rockies.
Jacob deGrom Injury Update
His injury was not considered serious, but it is great to see him get back to action so quickly. The Mets' ace had to leave his last MLB start after just five innings of work and ended up on the Injured List.
He has made two stellar rehab starts in the past week. Most recently, deGrom tossed 41 pitches and struck out eight batters in three innings of work for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets. He now seems fully prepared to take back his spot atop the Mets' rotation.
Mets fans know how important this is given deGrom has been off to yet another dominating start to the year, giving up just 17 hits in 40.0 innings pitched. In fact, he has been an early season Cy Young award favorite once again, posting a 0.68 ERA and .600 WHIP thus far.
Overall, deGrom has a 3-2 record on the year and has racked up 65 strikeouts. Having him back gives the Mets a major boost in their chances of making the postseason. The Mets currently have odds set at -210 to win the NL East, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
