For the second time in the best-of-five ALDS series between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees, a rain out occurred. The decisive Game 5 of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium was canceled on Monday night and rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Just as the cancelation in Game 2 changed things for the pitching staffs, the Game 5 cancelation had the potential to do the same. For the Yankees, it did. Nestor Cortes will now be starting on short rest instead of Jameson Taillon.

For the Guardians, though, they have elected to stick with Aaron Civale to start as they had originally planned, in what will mostly likely resemble a bullpen game for them. After the cancelation there was some speculation that the Guardians might elect to start Shane Bieber on short rest. Manager Terry Francona had previously shot this notion down, but with the extra day coming into play, there was some thought that he might change his tune. That didn't happen.

Although it's not crazy to think we might see Bieber enter the game at some point, especially if things start to get out of hand for Cleveland.

Civale has been abysmal this season, holding a 4.92 ERA in 20 starts and 97 innings pitched. And against the Yankees this season? He's been even worse. He holds an 0-2 record in two starts, an ERA of 10.00 and has surrendered a .343 batting average against in 9 innings pitched.

Francona is trusting the more rested arm here, despite his struggles. You'd have to imagine Civale has a pretty short leash, especially considering this magnitude of this win-or-go-home game.

The Guardians are +152 underdogs at Yankees Stadium in Game 5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB Postseason odds.
