Greg Zuerlein Injury Update Could Force Fantasy Owners to Look for Streaming Kicker Option in Week 16

Greg Zuerlein has been a fantasy football mainstay at the kicker position in recent years, and he sits 10th in fantasy production at the position in 2019.

He has suffered a right quad strain though, which has the Los Angeles Rams looking at potential replacements for Week 16. If he can't suit up against the San Francisco 49ers, fantasy owners will need to do the same.

The good news is that Zuerlein's production hasn't exactly been irreplaceable. On a per-game basis, there are 15 kickers that check in ahead of his 7.7 fantasy points, with another seven averaging at least 7.0.

A presumed healthy Zuerlein checked in at seventh to open the week in our Week 16 fantasy football rankings, but there are plenty of viable replacement options.

The two kickers we have ranked immediately above him, Younghoe Koo at sixth and Michael Badgley at fifth, are both available in over 50 percent of Yahoo! Fantasy Football leagues.

Koo and the Atlanta Falcons are 7-point favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars on FanDuel Sportsbook, while the "Money Badger" and his Los Angeles Chargers are favored by 6.5 over the Oakland Raiders.

You wouldn't generally want to blow waiver priority on a kicker, but Week 16 is a do-or-die game, and that leaves you with no reason to hold off for the future. Even if Zuerlein plays, a leg injury is an obvious red flag for a kicker, and that risk makes these streaming options more appealing plays for the championship.
