The San Francisco Giants have been one of the most surprising teams in the MLB this season as they currently sit atop the NL West with a record of 55-32. However, it isn't all good news as starting catcher and 2021 All-Star Buster Posey is now on the 10-day injured list due to a hand injury.

Buster Posey Injury Update

Posey left the Giants' game on Sunday afternoon after being hit on the left hand by a foul tip. He didn't play in any of the team's following three games and has now been diagnosed with a thumb contusion. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative and it seems like Posey could be back within a week or two.

This is still a big loss for San Francisco. The 34-year-old catcher's presence behind the plate is a major reason why the Giants have a team ERA of just 3.28 (No. 2 in MLB). Plus, Posey will no longer be able to start this year's All-Star game that is set to be played on Tuesday night.

The 2021 season has been a bounce-back year for Posey so far as he is hitting .328/.421/.547 to go along with 12 home runs and 28 RBI. Overall, the veteran backstop has also racked up 35 runs scored and thrown out 7 runners attempting to steal a base.

The Giants will look to keep their winning ways going and secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2016. San Francisco is currently tied for the seventh-best odds to win the World Series at +1300, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
