Giants Get Even Worse News on Evan Longoria Injury Update

As the San Francisco Giants gear up to repeat their successful 100-win campaign, Evan Longoria's lingering finger injury remains a sore spot for the franchise.
The issue popped up last year after Longoria was hit by a pitch and then reappeared during Spring Training. Longoria underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair the issue and the news got even worse when manager Gabe Kapler revealed his recovery timeline.

Longoria will miss at least six weeks of action in order to fully recover from this right index finger surgery, a devastating blow to start the 2022 campaign. The three-time All-Star may not make his season debut until at least mid May.
Wilmer Flores is the best option to fill in during this lengthy absence. Flores slashed .262/.335/.447 in the 51 games he started on third base. That's unfortunately a slight step down from Longoria's .261/.351/.482 production a year ago.
The Giants open the season against the Miami Marlins on April 8, touting odds set at +2500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
