After 12 brilliant seasons of professional baseball, recent San Francisco Giants legend Buster Posey decided to call it quits and unexpectedly announced his retirement after the 2021 season.

Fortunately, the Giants have already planned a ceremony to honor Posey for the upcoming MLB season.

Buster Posey Retirement

According to Giants beat writer Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the ceremony dubbed "Buster Posey Day" will be scheduled for a May 7th game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Posey did just about all a fan could ask in 12 years with the franchise, leading the team to three World Series titles and amassing 1,500 hits, 158 home runs and 729 RBIs as a fierce Gold Glove caliber catcher. The seven-time All-Star also won MVP in the 2012 season when he slashed .336/.408/.549 with 24 home runs and 103 RBIs.

Giants fans should pay close attention to the current MLB Lockout as this may affect the current schedule of Buster Posey day. There's a distinct chance that a May 7th game could be much closer to opening day at Oracle Park than originally planned.
