Frank Reich and Panthers are Targeting Former Broncos Head Coach For Defensive Coordinator Role

The Carolina Panthers were the first team this offseason to officially hire a new head coach when they signed former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich to lead the team.

Panthers Interested in Vic Fangio

Reich was fired halfway through this past season after a slow start, but had been at the helm of the Colts team since 2018. Now that Reich has the Panthers job, he has begun the work of building out his staff, and he reportedly has his eyes on Vic Fangio for the defensive coordinator job.

Fangio has been a hot commodity this offseason, also reportedly receiving heavy interest from the Dolphins to be their defensive coordinator. Earlier this week it seemed that Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was focused on bringing in Fangio, but Reich may have other ideas.

Fangio may not have worked out as a head coach in Denver but he is a proven and gifted defensive mind with a great resume as a coordinator. It was his job as the Chicago Bears DC that ultimately landed him that first head coaching job in Denver.

Now it seems Fangio could have multiple job offers to choose from if things continue to go well with the Panthers, it will be all up to him which one he takes. Miami might have a more talented defense, but he could be attracted to the ability to build and mold the Panthers' defense (which does have some really nice young pieces) in his way.
