There were numerous articles and stories published in the offseason highlighting the different weapons new Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Philip Rivers had to work with, but none of them touched on the impact wide receiver Marcus Johnson might have.

Due to injuries at position to starters Parris Campbell and T.Y. Hilton, Marcus Johnson is taking advantage of his opportunity and emerging as the No. 1 receiver on the Colts' offense. It may be surprising to know that the former Texas Longhorn went undrafted back in 2016.

Johnson has put together a solid 2020 season as he posted a career-high 108 receiving yards back in Week 6 and is averaging 18.5 yards per reception overall. It is unclear why the Colts have kept the receiver hidden on the sidelines and on the practice squad for so long, but he may finally be here to stay.

In Week 9, Johnson ran the most routes of any wide receiver on the team and played in a season-high 88 percent of the offensive snaps. He also tied for the team lead with 7 targets. Johnson is trying his best to work towards an expanded role in the Colts' offense.

It'll be interesting to see how the Colts handle the wide receiver position once players return from injury, but Johnson has certainly proved he's worthy of playing time. In fact, the Colts may have just stumbled upon a diamond in the rough here.
