Falcons' Draft Pick From Julio Jones Trade Now Set After Titans Loss
After plenty of offseason rumors, the Atlanta Falcons traded wide receiver Julio Jones to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a second-round pick. The exact location of that pick wouldn't be revealed until Tennessee's season ended, and that's now happened thanks to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Titans' loss has locked in their draft position, giving the Falcons clarity on where their extra second-rounder will be.
Falcons Draft Picks 2022
The Titans' second-round pick is set as the No. 58 overall selection, which will be Atlanta's to use during April's NFL Draft. That gives the Falcons an additional second-rounder at their disposal, along with their own pick at No. 43.
Atlanta currently boasts eight total draft picks for the upcoming draft, including the No. 8 overall selection in the first round. Outside of the second round, the Falcons also own two picks (189 and 213) in the sixth round.
GM Terry Fontenot has plenty of draft capital at his disposal to continue the team's retool. Atlanta bounced back from a 4-12 finish in 2020 to 7-10 in 2021 under first-year head coach Arthur Smith, and top rookie Kyle Pitts looked as good as advertised, giving plenty of optimism about the future.
The Falcons' biggest needs are clearly on the defensive side, with pass-rushing and the secondary as two key areas that demand attention. The offensive line also has to improve if they're to maximize Matt Ryan's last remaining years, and wide receiver could become a pressing concern this offseason as well.
Regardless, the draft should be an exciting time for Atlanta given the picks at its disposal.
