Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Russell Gage was a popular breakout pick entering the season as the team's clear WR2. After a quiet Week 1, Gage finally saw a heightened role against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but an injury forced him to miss the entire second half.

The latest on Gage is bad news for the Falcons.

Russell Gage Injury

Gage has an ankle injury that will make him week-to-week, according to Ian Rapoport. The receiver seems like a long-shot to play in Week 3, which isn't ideal for a struggling Falcons offense.

The fourth-year pro was held to 0 receptions in the season-opener, but he rebounded with 5 catches for 28 yards on 7 targets in the first half against the Bucs.

Gage's injury opened up an opportunity for Cordarrelle Patterson, who had 5 receptions for 58 yards and a TD after being a non-factor in the passing game in Week 1. Patterson could see a bump in his receiving role if Gage misses time. Atlanta also recently worked out speedy veteran John Brown after Gage went down on Sunday.

The Falcons head into their Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants as 3-point underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
