Coming into Week 1, it looked like New York Jets rookie Elijah Moore was poised for a breakout game. But another "Elijah M." may end up being the real story of Week 1; San Francisco 49ers' RB Elijah Mitchell.
49ers running back Raheem Mostert had to leave the game with a knee injury, and he's currently questionable to return. There's no word yet on just how severe the issue is, but any extended absence would be huge for Mitchell's fantasy outlook.
Elijah Mitchell Fantasy Outlook
If Mostert is out, it looks like Mitchell is the 49ers' back to roster. Jeff Wilson Jr. is injured, Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch and JaMychal Hasty appears to be buried behind Mitchell. Kyle Shanahan is a goldmine for fantasy RBs, and this lead role appears to be Mitchell's – for now.
He's wasted no time taking advantage of the opportunity. As of the writing of this article, Mitchell has turned six carries into 64 yards and a touchdown.
Mitchell could easily be the top waiver wire pickup of the weekend.
