The 2020 NFL Season was definitely a disappointment for the Philadelphia Eagles, to say the least.
With a 4-11-1 record, the Eagles finished at the bottom of the NFC East and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season. Now, the Eagles are spending the offseason trying to improve their team to get back into the postseason conversation.
One of their biggest needs was to improve defensively. The Eagles are now addressing that by signing linebacker Eric Wilson to a one-year, $3.25 million contract.
Eric Wilson has spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. However, due to salary cap reasons, the team decide to let Wilson walk to free agency. The Vikings signed Wilson as an undrafted free agent back in 2017, so he's used to proving people wrong.
Still, the Eagles aren't risking much on a cheap one-year deal. Wilson recorded 3 sacks, 122 tackles, 3 interceptions and a forced fumble in 2020. While he may not be the best linebacker in the league, Wilson has proved that he can make somewhat of a difference when it counts.
Wilson's contract with the Eagles is a low-risk, high-reward move for the team. If Wilson fails to impress, it's essetially a wash for the Eagles. However, if he manages to have a significant impact, the Eagles will have achieved those results on an affordable deal and could look to bring him back in the future. At the end of the day, it's a win-win situation in Philadelphia.
