The Jacksonville Jaguars made a significant move right after Week 7, agreeing to send running back James Robinson to the New York Jets for a 2023 sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-rounder. Robinson already appeared to be taking a backset to Travis Etienne as the team's starter, but news of the deal still caught many by surprise.
Head coach Doug Pederson revealed on Wednesday what led the team to suddenly deal Robinson.
Pederson clarified, despite Robinson's reduced usage, the team wasn't actively shopping the former undrafted standout. However, New York's call on Monday eventually led to a deal being made.
The Jaguars certainly raised suspicions after Robinson was almost a complete no-show in Week 7. The veteran didn't record a single carry and saw just one target. Etienne, meanwhile, handled 15 total touches and saw work even after his fumble on Sunday.
Now Robinson will look to revive his status as an RB1 in the run-centric Jets offense. The fact New York targeted Robinson right after the injury to workhorse rookie Breece Hall signals he'll be a big factor for a team looking to win games on the ground.
