It seems like everything finally came together for the Miami Dolphins last year as they finished with a record above .500 for the first time since 2016. However, the Dolphins' 10-6 record just missed the playoffs and now they are being disrespected in regards to their odds to make the postseason in 2021.

Miami is currently favored in the odds to miss the playoffs (-144) rather than make the postseason (+118), according to NFL future odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. It's surprising to see teams that had disappointing 2020 seasons including the Dallas Cowboys (-156) and San Francisco 49ers (-205) be thought of as stronger contenders to make the playoffs.

Miami Dolphins Playoff Odds

Of course, these odds are also impacted by the tough AFC East division the Dolphins find themselves in. The Buffalo Bills are expected to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders again and the New England Patriots should improve as well. Miami is likely going to be fighting for an AFC Wild Card spot.

All things considered, these odds are still way too low. The Dolphins' defense ranked No. 4 in the NFL last season giving up just 21.1 points per game. They bring back most of the key starters on that side of the ball and should be able to replicate their success under defensive coordinator Josh Boyer.

When it comes to Miami's offense, the front office made sure to make moves in order to upgrade the offensive weapons for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins signed an explosive playmaker in Will Fuller (14.9 yards per reception) and drafted star college wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Miami looks poised to make some noise in the AFC next season. Seeing the Dolphins at plus odds to earn a playoff spot doesn't seem right at all.
