Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered in Week 3 of the NFL preseason. With the Steelers' season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals less than 48 hours away, the standout wideout had great news to share with fans.
Johnson told reporters on Friday that he's "back on track" and "ready to go" against the Bengals. Barring any unforeseen setback between now and kickoff, fans should expect to see the 26-year-old back to his usual self this Sunday.
Diontae Johnson Injury Update
Concerns arose on Thursday when Johnson was a limited participant in practice. He clarified that he was limited due to a cramp and that he was a full participant on Friday. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that he'll likely have to manage some pain this weekend.
The Pro Football Docs have said that Johnson "may require a pain-numbing injection" to get through Sunday's game. With how important the Steelers-Bengals AFC North rivalry is, it won't be shocking if Johnson does whatever he can to stay in the game.
The former Toledo WR made a name for himself with a breakout campaign in 2021. Johnson ended his third NFL season with a career-high 107 catches, 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. Even with Ben Roethlisberger retired, Johnson should still be Mitchell Trubisky's No. 1 target going forward.
Steelers vs Bengals Week 1 Odds
The Steelers need Johnson to be as healthy as can be if they hope to upset the Bengals on the road. FanDuel Sportsbook currently lists Pittsburgh as 6.5-point underdogs in Week 1, however, Mike Tomlin's squad has -114 odds to cover the spread.
