The MLB trade deadline is not until the end of July, but that doesn't mean it is too early for teams to start making deals. The Arizona Diamondbacks recently decided to get in on the action by bringing back a fan favorite player in Ildemaro Vargas via a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Diamondbacks News: Acquire Ildemaro Vargas in Trade

Vargas returns to the desert after bouncing from organization to organization for the last two years. He spent his first four MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks and slashed .257/.287/.387 during that span. He also racked up 32 runs scored and 32 RBI in 265 plate appearances.

The 29-year-old will now take on a limited utility role with Arizona and also act as a solid pinch-hitter off the bench. That was the role of Domingo Leyba, whose release was made the corresponding move in this situation. The Diamondbacks needed to make room on the 40-man roster for Vargas since he had no minor-league options remaining.

Although he was never a full-time starter, Vargas' effort on the diamond and relentless energy made him a fan favorite in Arizona. Fans were sad to see him go and are now glad to seem him back. We'll see if Vargas can make the most of this opportunity in his second go around with the major league ball club.
