Alabama wide receiver and recent Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith just turned in an all-time season during the 2020 campaign, skyrocketing him up NFL Draft boards. The wideout will likely hear his name called early in the first round, but his stock has been falling as of late, with some focusing on his slender frame.
Ahead of Alabama's Pro Day, there's noise surrounding Smith's surprising pre-draft weight.
DeVonta Smith Weight
Smith said that he currently weighs 170 pounds, which has raised some eyebrows and given critics more ammunition to downplay his NFL outlook. And at 6-foot-1, the WR isn't towering over defenders, either.
Still, Smith showed his potential over the past two seasons, grabbing 68 catches for 1,256 yards and 14 TDs in 2019, followed by a dominant 2020 campaign with 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 TDs. There's little discounting what the Alabama WR did to opposing defenses this year.
After taking home the Heisman, there's not much more Smith can do to convince teams of his talent. If he falls in April due to more buzzy receivers in this class getting more attention, it'd be no surprise if he ends up making one lucky team very happy.
