Injuries totally shook up the fantasy football landscape in Week 2, and one of the biggest was Saquon Barkley's torn ACL. A true workhorse, Barkley's absence frees up a ton of volume in the New York Giants offense.
Looking to fill that void and clearly not content to rely on Dion Lewis, the Giants are signing veteran RB Devonta Freeman.
Devonta Freeman Fantasy Outlook
Freeman had a down year in 2019 as he worked his way back from a season-ending injury of his own, but he still racked up 6 touchdowns and 1,066 yards from scrimmage. Even if he's not the player he once was before his injury, he should still be able to generate solid fantasy value if he gets enough volume.
He may not get a Saquon-level workload, but Freeman should still see plenty of volume.
After Barkley went down in Week 2, the Giants still leaned on their backfield in a big way, giving 10 carries and 5 targets to Lewis. We saw something similar when Barkley missed time in 2019 as well. From Week 4 to Week 7, Jon Hilliman, Wayne Gallman and Elijhaa Penny combined to rack up 59 carries and 14 targets.
It will likely be a week before the Giants can get Freeman integrated into the offense, but he is now a top waiver wire target heading into Week 3, and will likely be a solid RB3 or FLEX option on a weekly basis once he does get involved.
