The Chicago Bears' decision to take Mitchell Trubisky at No. 2 over other talented quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the 2017 NFL Draft has already been highlighted over and over again. However, the Bears' choice is still puzzling to this day, especially considering the disparity between Trubisky and his fellow QB draftees now.
Watson, now a star for the Houston Texans, still doesn't know why Chicago didn't pursue him more.
Watson bluntly said that he has "no idea" why the Bears didn't spend more time with him during the combine and draft process. It makes even less sense considering the Bears needed a quarterback n that draft. When you're picking your QB of the future, you look at all options, even if you have a favorite. That they didn't spend much time with Watson, who had just led Clemson to an upset win over Alabama in the National Championship is even more surprising. That's not what any Bears fan wants to hear, especially given how great Watson has turned out.
Both Watson and Trubisky were put in similar positions with their respective teams, but they've had vastly different performances. Watson has three straight seasons with 24 or more passing touchdowns, while Trubisky has only accomplished that feat once. Watson has racked up three seasons with 3500+ passing yards, while Trubisky's best season was just over 3,200 yards.
Watson has performed exactly how a highly-selected QB should, which makes the decision to pick Trubisky sting even more.
