Chicago Bears starting running back David Montgomery has entered the NFL's concussion protocol. His status for Week 10 will depend entirely on how quickly he can clear the process, meaning his fantasy managers may need to get a backup plan ready.

If Montgomery can't go the Bears' jack of all trades Cordarrelle Patterson could be looking at a sizable uptick in value.

Cordarelle Patterson Fantasy Outlook

Patterson is a former first-round pick at wide receiver, though he's really made his bones as a a return man and on gadget plays. But Chicago has been using him at running back, and with Tarik Cohen done for the year, they don't have many other options if Montgomery can't go.

One potential drawback to relying on Patterson this week is that the Bears play on Monday night. Not only does it give Montgomery an extra day to get cleared, but fantasy managers might not find out if Patterson is startable until the Sunday games have concluded. That would leave fantasy managers in a tough spot.

But a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings' run defense (No. 19 in Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics) is pretty enticing.

Patterson is a solid pickup, particularly for Montgomery managers, but his schedule makes him difficult to rely on in Week 10.
