David Montgomery Fantasy Outlook Holds Strong With Potential For Huge Volume in 2020
By Larry Rupp

At this time last year, David Montgomery was being drafted as one of the top rookies in fantasy football, but his season was unable to live up to the hype as he finished with 889 rushing yards, averaging just 3.7 yards per carry.
Heading into his second NFL season, Montgomery is locked into the starting running back spot for the Chicago Bears and there is reason to believe he could bounce back with a much better performance, making him an intriguing pick in 2020 fantasy football drafts.
#Bears HC Matt Nagy feels confidence is up for 2nd year RB David Montgomery. "I like the way he handles his day-to-day operations. I love his mentality. He's a hard worker. I'm really excited to see what he does this year." @WBBMNewsradio

Due to his lack of production last year, Montgomery is going around the fifth round of many fantasy football drafts, meaning he is being seen as a low-end RB2. Despite this, Montgomery has the potential to outshine guys being drafted around him such as David Johnson, Todd Gurley, and rookie Jonathan Taylor.
Montgomery's 242 carries were tied for No. 13 in the NFL last season, and there's even room to expand on his 25 receptions now that he has a full year of NFL experience under his belt. Plus, the Bears showed more and more trust in Montgomery as last season went on, as he averaged 11.8 carries in his first six games, but saw that number jump to 17.1 rushes per game for the rest of the season.
Montgomery showed flashes of the player he could be last year ranking among the top running backs in broken tackles, with 28. With Tarik Cohen working almost exclusively as a receiving threat coming out of the backfield (and often in the slot), there is essentially no one vying for Montgomery's touches this season. He has the makings to be a workhorse running back.
With training camp in full swing, it seems that Montgomery has also changed his lifestyle a bit and improved his physique in the offseason to be ready for a full season of football.
David Montgomery looks a little slimmer and quicker and practice. The Bears RB said he changed his diet and cut out red meat this offseason.

Currently being drafted as the No. 26 running back off the board, per FantasyPros' average draft position (ADP) data, he checks in a little higher a No 24 in our 2020 fantasy football rankings. All signs point to a productive season for David Montgomery and it isn't going unnoticed as he is beginning to be seen as a potential breakout player in fantasy football.
