As the Green Bay Packers prepare to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, fans have been wondering if David Bakhtiari will play. The starting left tackle has been recovering from an offseason knee procedure, but has managed to practice throughout the week.

Unfortunately, things have taken a sudden turn for the worst. Packers insider Ryan Wood reports that Bakhtiari was absent from Friday's practice, only opting to ride the stationary bike. Wood sees this as a "strong indicator" that the veteran won't suit up until Week 2 at the earliest.

David Bakhtiari Injury Update

At the end of the day, there isn't much of a reason to rush Bakhtiari into the lineup if he isn't ready. There are just over 48 hours until the Packers and Vikings meet, which isn't a lot of time to turn things around. Given that he played only one game last year following his 2020 ACL tear, it makes sense to give him another week of rest.

When Bakhtiari is healthy enough to play, the hope is that three-time Pro-Bowler can return to his 2020 form. The San Mateo, CA native started in all 12 games he played for Green Bay that season, allowing only one sack on 758 offensive snaps before earning first-team All-Pro honors.

With the Packers looking to end their 11-year Super Bowl drought, they'll need Bakhtiari at full health to protect Aaron Rodgers Rodgers. Nevertheless, fans likely must wait another week to find out if the 30-year-old LT can turn back the clock.

Packers vs Vikings Week 1 Odds

The rest of Green Bay's offensive line must step up if Bakhtiari to secure the road win at U.S. Bank Stadium. For now, the Packers are only slight 1.5-point favorites over the Vikings with -110 odds to cover, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
